With Zappa it's hard to know where to begin with recommendations - he did so much in so many styles, and there are just as many valid reasons to dislike the stuff as to like it. I love plenty of it, but can see why other people would be put off by the weirdness, misanthropy, aggression, that particular sense of humour, etc, etc.
