Lots of food for thought here. I like the image of buried treasure in relation to this process. As St Paul puts it 'We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the all surpassing power is from God not from us.' For me the fairy tale 'Sleeping Beauty' describes the journey. Imagining you are all the characters in the story, you are hacking your way through the tangled brambles of your life to reach the dormant treasure within yourself, to awaken it with a kiss of love, compassion and acceptance. A joyful homecoming. It seems as if you are doing all the work, yet at times you are aware that you are being aided in your endeavours. Some call it 'grace'.
I'd totally forgotten about that Paul quote - that's going straight into Part 2! Turns out the New Testament's even more directly aligned with my line of enquiry than I thought.
Love the Sleeping Beauty comparison. The best myths and fairy tales always contain about ten layers.
